The ‘Auld’ and the New
The Auld Alliance was a historic pact formed in1295 between the Kingdom of Scotland and Kingdom of France.
Forged during a time of political tension with the Kingdom of England, the alliance was rooted in a simple promise: if one kingdom was attacked, the other would come to its defense. But over centuries, the alliance grew into something deeper than politics, it became a cultural exchange influencing cuisine, wine & spirits, tradition, education, and diplomacy.
Today, the alliance represents loyalty, heritage, and celebration without borders. At McLemore Resort, the historic tie to Scottish immigrant John McLemore anchors the resort’s identity of honoring tradition and expressing it through modern mountain hospitality.
THE HISTORIC TREATY
Just as the historic alliance connected nations, Auld Alliance builds meaningful relationships with local farms, producers, and artisans throughout the Northwest Georgia region.
Seasonal ingredients and regional craftsmanship anchor the restaurant among its landscape. Where possible, locally-sourced game and produce deepen the connection between the resort its native land.
The result is cuisine that feels rooted in place while honoring traditions from across the Atlantic.
Today, we are proud to partner with Rosemary and Thyme Creamery, Lafayette, GA; Sweet Grass Dairy, Thomasville, GA; Gowin Valley Farms, Rocky Face, GA; Signal Mountain Farm, Signal Mountain, TN; Grindstone Gardens, Ooltewah, TN; and Spencer Mountain Farms, Spencer, TN.
LOCAL ALLIANCES
Dining at Auld Alliance is about gathering and storytelling, just as it would have been centuries ago. Guests come together to enjoy exceptional food, thoughtful wines, shared history and the spirit of camaraderie.
Because at its heart, the Auld Alliance was about something timeless: friendship across borders.
And that spirit that lives on is unmistakably McLemore.
